Over the past several weeks, Kenya has experienced heavy rainfall, leading to severe flooding in various communities, including Kibera, Dagoretti, Mukuru Kwa Njenga, and Mathare. Many families have suffered damage to their homes and incurred significant losses.

Families with children and women with disabilities face additional challenges during floods, extending beyond the physical impact on their homes and environment. In regular circumstances, many families have limited access to specialized medical care, assistive devices, and support services. The floods worsen these obstacles, placing added strain on parents, family members, and caregivers of children with disabilities in providing essential care and support.

The Action Foundation promptly addressed the situation by delivering food supplies to over 360 families with children with disabilities across Kibera, Dagoretti, Mukuru Kwa Njenga, and Mathare. Additionally, we are working on providing other essential items like water purification liquid to prevent the outbreak of diseases. In this difficult time, it is essential to address the unique requirements of families with children and women with disabilities to help them regain stability. To enhance the livelihoods and resilience of these families, we aim to empower and expand our parent support groups through training and increasing their savings and loan capabilities.
