For a long time, The Action Foundation (TAF) has always strived to help children with disabilities living in urban informal settlements, to thrive despite the physical and/or intellectual challenges they face. In the same spirit, TAF also stands with the parents of these children, by connecting them with opportunities that are sure to lift their standards of living. Recently, three of our parents were linked with Masangula Krafts, a local skills training hub, where they underwent a 6-month training on tailoring.
Teresa Anyango, Anna Kwamboka and Roselida Ogolo went through the training and were awarded certificate of participation upon completion. The ceremony took place at Masangula Krafts Centre in Laini Saba, Kibera. The Director of Masangula Krafts, Ms. Monica said she is excited and humbled at the same time, to see women having a desire to empower themselves. “It is time we stood in the gap and gave our women a chance to be dependable,” she said. Also, in attendance was Ms. Emily Obiti from Turning Point, who said they uphold their promise to empower more women for the good of the society through the entrepreneurial skills that they push their students to achieve. “We recognize high achievers through periodic awards and use this opportunity to tell the stories of the exceptional women who aspire to do great things with the knowledge and skills they acquire during the 6 months.” she said.
Masangula Krafts honored the best trainees of the cohort that just ended for their outstanding performance during the last 6 months. They were honored on Wednesday, 3rd of July, 2019. The top performer of the class was awarded a sewing machine while our very own, Teresa Anyango, who came in second was absorbed into Masangula Krafts. We take pride in her and are excited about her excellence!
Teresa, Ann and Roselida are also beneficiaries of Street Business School, a global movement that TAF has partnered with to lift up women entrepreneurs and break the cycle of poverty. After their graduation, Teresa, Ann and Roselida will also be beneficiaries of micro loans offered by TAF, to help them kickstart their entrepreneurship journey.
We are currently in the process of empowering more women in a bid to end generational poverty for when a woman is empowered, the entire community is! We are glad to be changing lives, one woman at a time!
